I was one of the Magicians who did Weddings and Events for the now-closed Funkytown Discos. Hundreds of Couples and Suppliers like myself have been scammed, conned and left out of pocket. Not everyone seems to know Funkytown Discos (aka Funkytown Entertainment owned by Stephen Vandenberg Owens) was an agency with acts like myself often booked at very last minute and payment always paid weeks if not months after the wedding or event (if paid at all).
If you have been affected by the closure and you booked a wedding magician, you will get me at the same discounted rates agents and agencies like Funkytown Discos pay. I will also take payment on the day for your peace of mind. Just get in contact to arrange.
My heart goes out to all the people affected by this. If your wedding is in the immediate future (before 21st Oct) and you’ve been let down for entertainment please get in touch and I will gift you some of my time, if I’m available to make sure you have some incredible entertainment. This is done on an honesty system – please don’t take advantage.
If you booked a children’s entertainer that would not have been me – whilst what I do is very family friendly it’s close-up / table magic more aimed at the adults (but very entertaining for the children too).
There is a Facebook group set up for all victims with a running total of the hundreds of thousands people are owed. Please contact your bank ASAP and see if they can help – many people are reporting they have been refunded (although not everyone has had such luck).
Please note all the suppliers I worked with for Funkytown were always excellent and professional, but unfortunately, the business was severely mismanaged by the owner.

Zoe
Christmas party season magic has been fantastic so far, and I’ve still got another week of travelling up and down the country entertaining staff, clients and directors. One of my favourite performances this December was at The Old Weighing Room (really great venue for parties!) at Doncaster Racecourse. Great group of people with a brilliant atmosphere for the day – the magic went down a storm. It’s always nice to get feedback from events and you can see Zoe’s feedback above.
This December I’ve been performing my close up and table magic for Christmas parties in London, Bolton, Liverpool, St Helens, Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Leeds, Warrington, Bury, and Bristol. Next week I’m in some of the same places as well as Chester, The Wirral and Crewe.
Lots of my key dates got booked up in Aug-Oct so please book in ASAP for 2018 as soon as you have a date set to avoid disappointment.
Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year.
I’ll be finishing my shows on the 23rd of December and I’m looking forward to a Baileys and mince pie!
Are you looking to book Matt Colman to perform some world-class magic at your Christmas Party? Please get in contact as soon as possible – key dates are filling up faster than usual.
We’ve been doing a little work on the blog and we have accidentally deleted a huge chunk of posts from the past 5 years. Bare with us as we try to restore them.
I’ve gotten into a terrible habit of not keeping my blog fresh with updates – I say it every year, but this year I’ll try to post a new update at least once a year!
It’s been a great 2014 – working at some incredible venues, including a few places that I have dreamed of working for years!
As usual, I’ve traveled the length and breadth of the country for trade shows, corporate events, and beautiful weddings. And as usual, updates to this blog have been sparse!
I’ve been road testing some new ideas that over the next few months will find a permanent place in my repertoire, I’m really excited as the process of evolving an act is time-consuming, but so rewarding. Becoming stale is the enemy of any live act, new routines inject freshness for both myself and the audience.
Bookings are now coming in thick and fast for 2015, and I’ve just finished off the last few January corporate Christmas parties, unusually, not a piece of tinsel in sight.
Cheap magicians are always cheap for a reason. It can such a gamble – here’s an idea of what a cheap magic act might be like!…
